The investigation into the case of the maniac strangler of Mirgorod has ended.

Investigators have completed the investigation into the case of the maniac strangler Vladimir Mirgoroda, accused of murdering 16 people between 2000 and 2004 in Moscow. This was announced on March 31 by the Investigative Committee (IC) of the Russian Federation.
It is noted that Mirgorod is accused of murdering two or more people, attempted murder, rape and sexual violence.
"A significant amount of criminal case materials has been studied, including those on murders committed in previous years, where a similar method of committing crimes has been identified. <...> Molecular genetic examinations have been conducted, <...> according to the results of which Mirgorod's involvement has been established," the department's Telegram channel says.
According to the investigation, the criminal began his activity no later than 2000. Over the course of four years, he raped and strangled 15 girls, luring them with offers of a ride or to drink alcohol together. Also in 2003, Mirgorod beat and strangled a man with a belt near Dubninskaya Street.
It is noted that the maniac confirmed his involvement in the murders and spoke in detail about their commission.
"The investigation has collected indisputable evidence indicating his involvement in the commission of <...> crimes. The criminal case will be transferred to the court in the near future," the Investigative Committee said.
At the end of 2004, Mirgorod was arrested for rape and robbery, and in January 2005 he was sentenced to six years in prison. In July 2010, the criminal was released from prison, but in October he was arrested again after he told casual acquaintances while drinking alcohol about the murders. On January 30, 2012, the murderer was sentenced to life imprisonment.
On August 23, 2024, Mirgorod was charged with five more counts of murder. It is noted that following the results of the molecular genetic examinations, the involvement of Mirgorod in the commission of these crimes was established. During the interrogation, he admitted his guilt.
Five days later, it became known that the maniac confessed to another episode in 2003. Then he strangled a 21-year-old girl in the entrance on Cherepovetskaya Street.
