Konstantin Rudnev, a Russian citizen and founder of the Ashram of Shambhala sect (banned in Russia), was detained in Argentina on March 22. He is suspected of human trafficking. This was reported on March 31 by the TN portal.

It is noted that he was trying to fly from the Argentine city of Bariloche to Brazil, accompanied by five Russians and one Mexican woman. During the arrest, according to the portal, Rudnev attempted suicide.

The investigation came to the sect after doctors treated a pregnant underage girl who was accompanied by two followers of the Ashram of Shambhala. According to the portal, after the arrest of 14 people, the prosecutor's office supports the hypothesis that the sect was involved in a human trafficking network.

The Shambhala Ashram sect was established in 1989 in Novosibirsk by Konstantin Rudnev. From 1990 to 2010, the organization's branches operated in 20 regions of the Russian Federation. In October 2010, Rudnev was arrested, and in 2013 he was sentenced to 11 years in prison for creating an illegal religious organization, selling drugs and raping followers. Rudnev was released in 2021.

Earlier, on January 29, 14 members of a religious sect who deliberately deprived an eight-year-old child of diabetes medication were found guilty of manslaughter in Australia. The deceased is Elizabeth Rose Strus, who died on January 7, 2022, after six days without insulin injections. She suffered from type 1 diabetes.
