The Red Army captured the center of the Hungarian oil industry


On April 2, our fighters, continuing their offensive south-west of Lake Balaton, captured the important town of Nagykanizh, the Izvestia newspaper reports.
"The troops of the 3rd Ukrainian Front, together with Bulgarian troops, captured the center of the Hungarian oil industry, the city of Nagykanizha. This is an important road junction and a strong German defense stronghold," the newspaper said.
There were exactly 37 days left until the Great Victory.
Stalin expressed gratitude to the troops for the capture of the settlement, and ordered the awarding of distinguished service orders.
