People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs of the USSR V.M. Molotov conveyed to Japanese Ambassador Sato a note on the desire of the Soviet government to denounce the non-aggression pact of April 13, 1941, Izvestia writes.

"Since the time when the Neutrality Pact was concluded, that is, since April 13, 1941, the situation has thus changed radically. Regarding this change, in a statement made on April 5 by People's Commissar for Foreign Affairs of the USSR V. M. Molotov to Japanese Ambassador N. Sato, it says: "Germany attacked the USSR, and Japan, Germany's ally, helps the latter in its war against the USSR. In addition, Japan is at war with the United States and Britain, which are allies of the Soviet Union," the newspaper reports.

There were exactly 34 days left until the Great Victory.

The Soviet government emphasizes that this decision is related to the third article of the pact, according to which the parties must decide on the extension or termination of the document one year before the expiration of the document, designed for five years.

In the morning editions of American newspapers, this decision was reported under the largest headlines across the entire front page, Izvestia reports, citing TASS.

The material was published as part of the Izvestia special project "80 days to Victory."
