In St. Petersburg, passers-by rescued a child who jumped out of the window of a burning apartment in the Krasnogvardeysky district. The relevant footage was posted online on March 31 by eyewitnesses.
The published footage shows how passers-by unfurled a blanket under the windows of the living room to catch the child. The boy jumped from the third floor. Passersby who helped managed to catch the child, however, he previously suffered leg injuries.
The press service of the city headquarters of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia reported that the fire occurred in a house on Korney Chukovsky Street. It is noted that the fire occurred on the balcony of a studio apartment on an area of 4 sq. m.
By 17:27 Moscow time, the fire was extinguished. 18 specialists of the Ministry of Emergency Situations and four pieces of equipment were involved in extinguishing the fire.
One of the eyewitnesses, Sergey Demchenko, shared that he saw the fire from the playground after he picked up the children from school and kindergarten. He clarified that he wanted to try to open the apartment door.
"The boy did well, he opened the window himself, threw out the blanket <...> and was not afraid when I and two other men straightened the blanket. Basically, he jumped almost immediately. <...> When he jumped off, he fell, he was conscious," he added.
Another eyewitness, Tatiana Tkacheva, said that she approached the scene when the child had already been caught. According to her, the boy probably hurt his leg in the fall.
"I know this mother, she is the mother of three children. The rest of the children are in kindergarten, she was at work. He came home from school and saw a fire on the balcony, which he informed his mother about. Mom, of course, also started calling the fire department and an ambulance and ran home," she clarified.
On March 31, a 14-year-old girl in Saransk rescued three children from a burning apartment. According to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, she took an 11-month-old baby, as well as his 5-year-old and 10-year-old brothers, outside. The specialists of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, in turn, evacuated 16 people from the building, including two children. There are no casualties.
