Despite the loyalty of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and his associates to the administration of US President Donald Trump, Budapest will not agree to participate in the American initiative to resettle Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. This opinion was expressed by Doctor of Political Sciences Alexander Gusev on Monday, March 31.

The day before, The Times of Israel newspaper wrote that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu intends to discuss with the head of the Hungarian government a plan for the resettlement of residents from the Gaza Strip.

"There can be no question of any resettlement, because the key question is: where to relocate? Orban has probably already thought about this topic and will not make any compromises on the resettlement of Palestinians to Europe, Hungary or anywhere else," he said in an interview with the "Paragraph".

At the same time, the expert noted that other EU countries, to which Netanyahu may also turn, are able to agree to his proposal, but not out of a desire to take care of the fate of the Palestinians.

"They pretend to be in favor of peace, but in reality, they are definitely in favor of war. They can position themselves as the saviors of the Palestinian people. In addition, we should not forget that there is a strong pro—Jewish lobby in Europe that fully supports Israel, so the Israelis and Netanyahu have a lot of influence on the leaders of European countries," Gusev stressed.

Earlier, on March 17, CBS News reported that the US and Israeli authorities are considering Syria, Sudan and Somalia as a potential place for the resettlement of Palestinians from the Gaza Strip. The article noted that Israeli and American officials had contacted the Governments of Sudan and Somalia on the matter.
