Goldman Sachs Group raised its estimate of the probability of a recession in the US economy in the next 12 months from 20% to 35%. On March 31, The Wall Street Journal reported this.

"The prospect of a radical escalation of the global trade war in the coming days has almost doubled the likelihood of a recession in the US economy in the next 12 months," the publication says.

It is clarified that the aggravation of the situation is caused, among other things, by the introduction of new import duties by the administration of US President Donald Trump. An increase in the likelihood of a recession is also associated with a noticeable drop in the level of confidence on the part of households and businesses.

The newspaper added that the risks associated with labor market problems and possible epidemics may have an impact on economic growth in the United States.

On March 11, Natalia Malykh, head of the stock analysis department at Finam, said that the US stock market continues to show negative dynamics, causing concern among investors. This is due to a number of factors, including the deterioration of economic forecasts, trade wars and uncertainty in macroeconomic policy.

Earlier it was reported that since March 4, Trump has doubled duties on goods from China from 10 to 20%. In turn, China has imposed import duties of 15% on a number of American products since March 10 and imposed export controls on 15 companies.
