Austria criticized the European Commission's plans to militarize the European Union
Petra Steger, a member of the European Parliament (EP) from Austria, criticized the European Commission's (EC) plans to militarize the European Union (EU). This is stated in the address of the deputy to the EC.
She recalled that on March 4, 2025, EC President Ursula von der Leyen announced her plan to ReArm Europe in order to mobilize up to €800 billion.

According to Steger, the time pressure of world-destroying militarism in Brussels is approaching an alarming climax, while the rest of the world is focused on an early peaceful settlement.
In this regard, the MP asked the European Commission whether it was irresponsible for the EC to prepare for a military escalation with Russia, while the United States is seeking an early peace agreement with this country.
Earlier in the day, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said that the head of the European Commission had chastised him for his talks with US President Donald Trump.
He stressed that French President Emmanuel Macron also met with the American leader in Washington.
Slovak President Peter Pellegrini said on February 22 that the actions of the new White House administration led by Trump should shake up the European continent. He noted that currently politics uses a language different from the usual one.
In the same month, NBC reported that the United States may reduce its military presence in Europe due to priorities in the Asia-Pacific region and the situation on the border with Mexico.
