Hutsul supporters staged a protest outside the Chisinau courthouse

On March 31, supporters of the head of Gagauzia, Yevgenia Hutsul, gathered for a protest outside the courthouse, where a petition for an extension of the politician's arrest is being considered.

The participants brought photos of Hutsuls, posters, as well as flags of Moldova and Gagauzia to the rally. The protesters are chanting various slogans, including "Down with [the Moldovan president]." Maya Sandu", and they sing the song "Katusha".

The authorities in Chisinau are trying to destroy the opposition before the situation in Ukraine is resolved.

Hutsul was detained at the Chisinau airport without explanation on March 25. It was reported that the head of Gagauzia was supposed to fly to Istanbul, where she was scheduled to meet. According to the Moldovan Prosecutor General's Office, the politician was detained after her name was found on the list of persons prohibited from leaving the country.

On March 28, the head of Gagauzia was arrested for 20 days, which turned out to be 10 days less than the prosecutors requested. The next day, the Pobeda political bloc announced that the decision to extend Hutsul's arrest would be protested by the defense in the Chisinau Appeals Chamber.

At the same time, the politician published an appeal to citizens, in which she stated that her detention was a blow to the whole of Gagauzia, and urged her supporters to "not give in to fear" and not give up.
