In the village of Rostovanovskoye, Stavropol Territory, vandals desecrated the graves of participants in a large-scale military operation. This was announced on March 31 by Pavel Babichev, acting head of the Kursk Municipal District of the region.
"In the village of Rostovanovsky, a blatant case of vandalism occurred — the graves of participants in a special military operation were desecrated," he wrote on the Telegram channel.
He clarified that the criminals had already been detained. The circumstances of the incident are being established.
The regional prosecutor's Office found that a 44-year-old local resident had written offensive inscriptions on the graves on March 28.
A criminal case has been opened on this fact under paragraph "b" of Part 2 of Article 244 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Desecration of burial sites motivated by hatred or enmity against any social group"). The progress and results of the investigation are under the control of the Prosecutor's Office.
On March 31, it became known that vandals had burned and vandalized the grave of Izvestia correspondent Alexander Fedorchak in Crimea. Anton Kravets, the head of the Nizhnegorsky district administration, added that vandals also set fire to the graves of three more participants in the special operation.
On November 18, 2024, the Tverskoy Court of Moscow sentenced two men to 2.5 and three years in a penal colony for desecrating a memorial to military personnel who participated in a special operation. They were charged with crimes under paragraph "a" of Part 2 of Article 243.4 of the Criminal Code ("Destruction or damage of memorial structures perpetuating the memory of those who died defending the Fatherland or its interests") and Part 2 of Article 214 of the Criminal Code ("Vandalism").
