JAC to build trucks in Russia
A division of the Chinese company JAC is planning to set up a joint venture in Russia to produce trucks under its own brand. This was stated by the Deputy General Director of Jac Automobile (JAC commercial transport). Pavel Yachnikov, Kommersant reports on March 31.
Production lines will be brought to the enterprise in the third quarter, and production of machines is planned to begin in the fourth quarter. Yachnikov did not specify which plant would assemble JAC commercial vehicles, but noted that an agreement with one of the companies was already in the final stages of signing. The parties are using the existing capacities in the Russian Federation, they will start with a large-scale production, after which they intend to deepen localization.
The JAC N90 and JAC N120 models (with a total weight of 9 and 12 tons, respectively) with a 4.5 liter engine will be put on the assembly line. In 2026, the plant's line will include the N200 commercial truck (with a total weight of 20 tons) and the K7 mainline tractor, with a possible expansion into two more models in the future. It is planned to produce up to 600 cars this year, and about 4 thousand units in the future.
The company decided to localize the assembly of cars in Russia after the introduction of the concept of an annual increase in the recycling fee in Russia. JAC considered that those who have or plan to co-produce with Russian partners who have the opportunity to launch the project under a special investment contract (SPIC) will have an advantage in the market.
On March 20, production of the new Valdai 18 bonnetless truck started in Nizhny Novgorod. It is designed for short- and medium-haul transportation, public utilities, and solving various economic and business tasks in an urban environment.
