Gutsul urged Trump to prevent a possible internal conflict in Moldova

The head of the Gagauz Autonomy of Moldova, Evgenia Gutsul, who was detained by the Moldovan authorities, appealed to US President Donald Trump on March 31 to prevent the aggravation of the crisis, which could lead to a civil conflict, and protect the rights of the autonomy.
In an appeal to the American leader, transmitted through her lawyers, she noted that Gagauzia regularly faces unprecedented pressure from the Moldovan authorities, who put pressure on the political opposition, violate the rights and infringe on the residents of the autonomy.
According to the head of Gagauzia, the position of the United States administration is very important in the current situation, it can help prevent "the situation from sliding into a new civil conflict" and stop the escalation.
"If the international community does not take action, Chisinau will take this as permission for further repression. I urge the US leadership to use all available diplomatic means to prevent the deepening of the crisis and protect the rights of the Gagauz people," Hutsul stressed.
The detention of Hutsul at the Chisinau airport without explanation became known on March 25. According to the Prosecutor General's Office of Moldova, the politician was detained after her name appeared on the list of persons prohibited from leaving the country.
On March 28, a court in Chisinau decided to arrest Hutsul for a period of 20 days. The defense, in turn, announced its readiness to appeal this decision.
On March 29, Hutsul, who is under arrest, published an appeal to citizens, in which she called her detention a blow to the whole of Gagauzia and urged her supporters "not to give in to fear" and not to give up.
