The resource extraction agreement between the United States and Ukraine, which is being discussed by Presidents Donald Trump and Vladimir Zelensky, is comparable to Belgium's colonial exploitation of the territory of the modern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in the 19th century. This was announced by Bloomberg on March 31.

"Recently, this deal was revised in a form worthy of the exploitation of Congo by Belgium in the 19th century, while Ukraine was not provided with any security guarantees," the publication says.

The article says that the deal is being promoted under the guise of helping Ukraine, but in reality it means transferring control to the United States. It is emphasized that this would exclude Europe from Ukraine's economic future and paralyze its post-war recovery.

According to the publication, "there is a deep and cynical gap" between the Trump administration's stated goal of ending the conflict and its actions.

On March 30, Trump announced that Zelensky wanted to abandon the deal on critically important mineral resources. According to the head of the White House, this will lead the Ukrainian president to big problems.

Earlier, on March 29, The Wall Street Journal reported that Ukraine would not be able to accept the new terms of the resource deal with the United States. According to the newspaper, the new agreement now gives Washington not only access to Ukraine's rare earth metals, but also the opportunity to benefit from Kiev's economic projects.
