- The Interior Ministry warned about a new scheme of deception with fundraising for patients

Fraudsters open a collection for a terminally ill person in order to appropriate the collected money after his death. This was reported to RIA Novosti on March 31 with reference to the materials of the document of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
"This scheme raises funds for a terminally ill person with the promise of treatment in a clinic that is ready to take on a difficult case. After collecting the money, the patient dies, as he was terminally ill initially, which makes fraud difficult to prove," the materials say.
According to law enforcement officials, after collecting the necessary amount, the patient is sent for treatment, where he dies because he was terminally ill. After that, part of the money is transferred to the fund's account from the clinic where the patient was, since the treatment was not completed. This money becomes available for arbitrary use.
After that, the scammers delete the posts from social networks, and the people who transferred the money remain without an expense report, information about the remaining amount, and without money, the department stressed.
"This scheme remains practically unprovable," the Interior Ministry concluded.
On March 27, the Russian Interior Ministry announced a new fraud scheme through house chats. So, by registering in them under the guise of tenants, the attackers place ads that hide phishing links that steal personal data.
