Greenland's new prime minister, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, said on March 30 that the United States would not receive the island.

"[US President Donald] Trump said that the United States "will get Greenland." Let me be clear: the United States will not receive it," he wrote on his Facebook page (owned by Meta, a company whose activities are recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation).

The Prime Minister of Greenland explained that the island does not belong to anyone. According to him, "it was like that yesterday, it is like that today, and it will be like that in the future."

In addition, Nielsen urged Greenlanders not to be afraid of Trump's statements, but to respond to them with calmness, dignity and unity.

In December last year, the US president said that for the United States, ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity. Prior to that, he expressed interest in buying the island from Denmark in 2019, but was refused. In 2025, Trump was also told that the island was not for sale and would not be, but Denmark could cooperate more with the United States.

The American president said on March 27 that Greenland's accession to the United States is necessary to ensure national and international security. At the same time, he admitted that he did not know if the residents of the island had a desire to join, but noted that "they need to be convinced" to become American citizens.
