Forest fires in southeastern South Korea have been completely eliminated

The authorities of the Republic of South Korea have completely eliminated forest fires in the south-east of the country, which began on March 21. This was announced on March 30 by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Security of the Republic.

"Today at 13:00 (7:00 Moscow time. — Ed.), the main fire was completely extinguished in Sancheon County [Gyeongsangnamdo Province], where fires started on March 21," the Yonhap news agency said.

As specified, all 11 foci have been eliminated.

Earlier, on March 30, the Reuters news agency reported that the strongest forest fires in South Korea could have started due to a ceremony at a family grave.

Yonhap said on March 27 that forest fires in the southeastern province of North Gyeongsang had killed 26 people and injured 30 others. Among the buildings, 325 objects were damaged, of which 117 were residential buildings. In this regard, 24 thousand residents were initially evacuated.
