- Addition and combination: Russians will be able to apply for a tax deduction through a bank

It will soon be possible to apply for a simplified tax deduction for medical and educational services directly at the bank, Izvestia found out. A similar service is already being launched at T-Bank, and other banks are considering the possibility of developing it. The mechanism will allow Russians to save on medical treatment and education, as well as increase the level of digitalization of the economy. Experts note that new banking services are becoming more and more human-centered, and market participants are trying to make their products as comfortable as possible for their customers. How quickly it will be possible to apply for a tax deduction is described in the Izvestia article.
How to get a tax deduction quickly
Banks are launching services for the rapid processing of tax deductions for medical treatment and education, Izvestia found out. This became possible due to the simplification of the mechanism for obtaining them from 2025. A similar service will be launched at T-Bank next month, and Sovcombank will also consider developing a similar product.
A tax deduction is the amount that any citizen of the Russian Federation can return from his paid personal income tax (personal income tax) for certain types of expenses. These may include medical expenses (for example, voluntary health insurance, medical treatment or hospital stay) and educational services (for example, online courses, driving school, private kindergarten, music school).
— Expenses of up to 150,000 rubles per year are deductible. Of these, 13% will be refunded to the client, that is, a maximum of 19.5 thousand rubles," explained economist Andrey Barkhota.
Until 2025, the process of making deductions was quite complicated and involved collecting supporting documents, income statements of 3-personal income tax and making declarations, Andrei Barkhota explained. Bureaucratic barriers made the mechanism less accessible to Russians — the complexity of the procedure could discourage a person from receiving benefits, even if the person knew about the right to it.
Tax deductions related to medical treatment and education are very popular among the population, Andrei Barkhota said. Their size is relatively small, but you can receive them every year. For comparison, the deduction when buying a home can reach several hundred thousand rubles, but you can get it only once in a lifetime.
Since the beginning of the year, a simplified procedure for processing tax deductions has been implemented. To confirm the expenses, it is enough for the client to fill out applications for deduction in the organizations where he received services. Based on these documents, the tax service itself forms an application for deduction in the taxpayer's personal account, which the client only needs to sign. Due to the automation of the process, the period of verification by the Federal Tax Service is reduced from three months to a period of one month to several days.
Which banks will simplify the processing of tax deductions
Based on a simplified mechanism for obtaining tax deductions, T-Bank is launching an online service that will further simplify this process, the organization's press service said. This will allow you to combine all deductible expenses in the bank's application and free customers from most actions with documents.
— Collecting documents and filling out tax returns is not the most exciting activity — because of this, many citizens do not even try to apply for a social tax deduction. Our new service will increase the accessibility of this mechanism for citizens," said Ivan Zimin, Vice President for the implementation of innovative government technologies and services at T—Bank.
The process of obtaining benefits will take place almost without the participation of the client, the press service of T-Bank clarified. The user can see all the expenses suitable for deduction in the mobile application, and then submit a general application for a tax certificate in one click. Then the bank will request the necessary documents and send them to the Federal Tax Service. The client will only have to sign a pre-filled declaration in his personal account on the tax website.
Clients of a financial institution can receive tax deductions for spending on medical services at the K+31 and Bureau 32 clinics, as well as on online education at Skillbox and training at the Central University of T-Bank. The list of service partners is expected to expand further, as well as companies providing sports and wellness services.
Sovcombank is also considering the possibility of introducing such a service in the medium term, the company's press service said.
— Progressive players strive to provide convenient services. This is the next evolutionary stage in the development of banks — now it is important for them to provide the most human—centered services," said Nikolay Kozak, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Dom.rf Bank.
In addition, VTB is already implementing an online tax deduction service for housing and mortgages, the bank's press service said. Documents are submitted remotely, which makes the process three times faster. Over the past year, users of the service were able to return 8.5 billion rubles to their accounts.
Merging social and banking services into a single digital ecosystem can be very much in demand by users, as it greatly saves time and efforts of citizens, Sovcombank explained. Such a technological solution is a format that must scale in the market.
How does the development of banking services affect the economy
Simple and affordable tax deductions make it possible to effectively perform the function of social support at minimal cost to the state, said Alexey Voylukov, MBA Professor of business Practice in digital Finance at the Presidential Academy. According to him, the additional simplification of the client's path will strengthen state support in the areas of education and healthcare that are important to the state.
— Thanks to such services, more people will be able to use the service, — Alexey Voylukov specified.
The digital transformation of the Russian economy is also very important for accelerating all settlement processes in the state, said Vladimir Chernov, analyst at Freedom Finance Global. It reduces government administration costs and also encourages Russians to legalize their income.
— Tax authorities have long sought to reach the pinnacle of digitalization — to integrate with banking applications. This will give them the opportunity to better track the movement of income and expenses among citizens, which will increase the efficiency of the tax system," explained Andrei Barkhota.
The introduction of simplified tax deduction services by banks is a strategically beneficial solution that will bring the organization a lot of income, said Vladimir Chernov. Due to this, banks will make cross-sales of their other products and increase their profits. Customers are also less likely to join competitors if their bank provides them with seamless and convenient wealth management mechanisms.
