The Danish government has decided to strengthen the fleet with new ships

The Danish government has prepared a plan to strengthen the kingdom's fleet both for the short and long term. On March 30, the Danish Ministry of Defense announced this on its website.
"As part of the naval plan, we are initiating several urgent acquisitions that are aimed at solving specific problems and threats that we will face now and in the coming years," said Troels Lund Poulsen, head of the Ministry.
He noted that the picture of risks and threats in the international situation is becoming more complicated, and technologies in the military sphere have begun to develop rapidly.
The Ministry of Defense of the Kingdom indicated that the government has offered to immediately purchase new equipment for monitoring the most important infrastructure located underwater, and to begin a program to develop drones and other unmanned devices that would strengthen the Danish Naval Forces (Navy).
In addition, the ministry said that it is planned to purchase 21 vessels for the Marine Corps and four for the coast guard. It is specified that the latter can also be used for military purposes, for example, for surveillance and the installation of mines.
Thorsten Schack Pedersen, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, noted that the ships would be useful for maritime protection and, if necessary, to eliminate oil spills. After the purchase of new vessels, the Danish Navy is disposing of some old worn-out ships.
Poulsen announced on March 29 that Denmark would purchase several hundred naval mines as part of NATO's defense strategy to strengthen its capabilities in inland waters. Delivery of this type of weapons is expected in 2027-2029.
In addition, on March 26, an air defense unit was created in the kingdom at the Skalstrup airbase to protect the country.
