The Pentagon called China the main threat to the United States

The US Department of Defense in a secret document identifies China as its main threat. This was reported on March 30 by The Washington Post (WP).
According to the newspaper, the secret document was called the "Interim Strategic Guidance on National Defense." It was signed by Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth and distributed to Pentagon staff in mid-March.
"China is the only threat that the department can afford," the Pentagon chief said.
According to the newspaper, the department's internal leadership is now focused on deterring a possible "takeover of Taiwan" by China and strengthening internal defense.
The Pentagon is going to put pressure on allies in Europe, the Middle East and East Asia to spend more money on defense and "assume the bulk of the deterrent role against threats from Russia, North Korea and Iran."
Earlier, on March 27, Dmitry Suslov, deputy director of the Center for Comprehensive European and International Studies at the National Research University Higher School of Economics (HSE), an expert at the Valdai Club, said that the United States could not afford to unleash a military confrontation with China due to the risk of escalation, they needed an international detente. According to the expert, the United States is "enormously losing" to China in terms of the pace of naval development, in addition, China is catching up with the United States in the field of nuclear weapons.
On March 5, the Chinese Embassy in Washington reported that China is ready to "fight to the end" in any conflict with the United States. The mission also noted that the right decision for Washington would be to consult with Beijing on an equal footing.
