The doctor named a dangerous reason for the appearance of flies in front of the eyes

The appearance of black dots or flies in front of the eyes may indicate retinal detachment. About this on March 30, "Gazeta.Ru", said the ophthalmologist of the Semeynaya clinic, Elvira Shikhalieva.
According to the doctor, patients often turn to an ophthalmologist because of the flies in front of their eyes. They occur as a result of the destruction of the vitreous body.
"The vitreous body occupies about 2/3 of the volume of the eyeball and ensures the passage of light to the retina, so any pathology requires the attention of a doctor. Normally, the vitreous body is transparent, but with age it may lose its uniform structure and transparency. As a result, visual impairment," said Shikhalieva.
She clarified that vitreous destruction is not considered a serious pathology, but requires regular medical checkups.
"During the inspection, it is necessary to describe the flies as accurately and in detail as possible, because they can vary in intensity. It happens that visual disturbances appear only in bright light. And it happens that interference is always present and causes a lot of inconvenience: because of the flies, a person cannot read or work at a computer," the doctor explained.
Shikhalieva attributed stress, overwork, iron deficiency in the diet, and poor eye health to the causes of this phenomenon.
"For example, "black dots" in front of the eyes may appear as a reaction to an injury to the eye, a foreign body entering the eye. Or with retinal detachment. In the latter case, visual acuity may also deteriorate, and flashes and sparks may appear in front of the eyes. Of course, such symptoms should alert and become a reason to immediately consult a doctor, because retinal detachment or injury can lead to blindness," she explained.
The ophthalmologist noted that people suffering from myopia should be especially attentive, as they have an increased risk of retinal detachment.
In addition, people with diabetes, hypertension, atherosclerosis, and osteochondrosis should pay attention to the appearance of flies in front of their eyes.
"With all these diseases, the appearance of "flies" can mean a serious malfunction in the body. And it is very important to diagnose the disease in time and prescribe treatment," the doctor said.
Ophthalmologist, microsurgeon at the SM Clinic, Candidate of Medical Sciences Svetlana Mirgorodskaya told Izvestia on March 27 that the diseases leading to vision loss were serious. These include retinal detachment and vitreous hemorrhage, known as hemophthalmos. She also attributed anterior ischemic neuropathy, retrobulbar neuritis. According to her, sudden visual disturbances can be associated with other factors: strokes, tumor processes, injuries, burns or fractures of the skull.
