The Palestinian Hamas movement has agreed to a proposal received two days ago from Egypt and Qatar for a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip, the movement's leader Khalil al-Haya said on Saturday, March 29.

"We agreed to the proposal that we received two days ago from intermediaries in Egypt and Qatar," he said in a video message.

The Hamas leader also expressed the hope that the Israeli military forces would not create obstacles and would not interfere with the implementation of the conditions reached by the mediators. According to him, the Palestinian group will not disarm as long as the Israeli occupation exists.

Asharq TV channel reported on March 28 that the delegations of Egypt and Qatar were holding talks with the radical Hamas movement and Israel on a prisoner exchange and a temporary truce in the Gaza Strip. During the negotiations, a deal was formulated that includes the release of five Israeli hostages in exchange for a number of Palestinian prisoners and a 50-day cease-fire in the Gaza Strip.
