The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine has created the Office of Space Policy, which will contribute to the formation of space forces. This was announced on March 29 by Ekaterina Chernogorenko, the country's Deputy Minister of Defense for Digitalization.

In addition, the department organizes the interaction of public and private companies, as well as scientists with the defense forces.

"We have a law on space activities, which says that the Ministry of Defense should form a policy in the field of military space. This is not only the purchase of innovative solutions from engineers, <...> but also the creation of space forces," the Ukrainian Public television channel quoted her as saying.

She added that the agency intends to become the main customer in Ukraine of space technology, products and services. By 2030, Ukraine plans to have national satellites for defense purposes, as well as an air alert and space monitoring system, Chernogorenko said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on February 24 that the country would create its own military alliance if it could not join NATO. He noted that Ukraine would not be able to implement such a project on its own, for this it would need to provide "financing, contingents and defense production." Andrei Kolesnik, a member of the State Duma's defense committee, in turn, expressed confidence that Ukraine's creation of a NATO analogue was unrealistic.
