A public figure called the earthquake in Myanmar the largest in 100 years.

The earthquake that occurred in Myanmar is the largest in the last 100 years. Alexander Ostrovsky, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Society for Friendship and Cooperation with the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, told Izvestia on March 29.
He noted that this natural phenomenon is not uncommon for the republic, but such strong tremors have not happened for a long time. According to Ostrovsky, usually the magnitude of earthquakes in Myanmar is 2.5–3 points, but this time the power was much higher.
"This is the first time in 100 years that such a large and severe earthquake has occurred," he said.
A natural disaster caught him on his way to the hotel. Despite the palpable tremors, the building managed to survive.
The local authorities are making every effort to promptly eliminate the consequences of the earthquake, Ostrovsky added.
On March 28, two earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 6.4 were recorded in Myanmar. The epicenter of one of them was located 31 km northwest of the city of Mandalay, and the second was 19 km south of the city of Sagaing.
On March 29, it became known that underground oil pipelines and power lines were damaged as a result of the earthquake. Highways were also destroyed. The death toll reached 1,644 people. According to the Xinhua news Agency, 3,408 people were injured, and 139 more are missing.
