Russia highly appreciates the long-standing friendly relations between Russia and Turkmenistan. This is stated in the greeting of the Chairman of the Federation Council Valentina Matvienko to the participants of the international conference "Year of Peace and Trust: development of international activities in the interests of children" in the Hague.

She recalled that this May marks the 30th anniversary of the signing of the agreement between the two governments on cooperation in the fields of culture, education and science.

"During this time, our states have established effective permanent contacts in the humanitarian sphere," Matvienko said, her words were read out by Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Inna Svyatenko, the text of the greeting is quoted by TASS.

The Chairman of the Federation Council also stressed the importance of the conference in light of the fact that the UN declared 2025 the International Year of Peace and Trust on the initiative of Turkmenistan, as well as against the background of rapid changes in the world. According to her, children are the main wealth of the country, and their education and health should be at the center of society's attention.

In addition, Matvienko said that Russia pays attention to family and childhood support issues. She emphasized the priority of the state social policy in increasing the prestige of multigenerational and large families, which is important for the formation of a healthy society and harmonious upbringing of children.

On February 10, Russian Ambassador to Turkmenistan Ivan Volinkin announced Moscow's respect for Ashgabat's foreign policy. He added that relations between Russia and Turkmenistan have always been built on the basis of a common history, respect and mutual benefit. He noted the closeness of the two countries' approaches to major international and regional issues, as well as the determination of the states to deepen security cooperation.

On December 31, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared that relations between Russia and Turkmenistan were successfully developing in the spirit of an in-depth strategic partnership. According to him, the leaders of the two countries will continue constructive dialogue and consistent work on the bilateral and international agenda.
