US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth was criticized for taking his wife with him to important meetings where classified information could be discussed. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal on March 28.

"Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth <...> brought his wife, a former Fox News producer, to two meetings with foreign military colleagues, where confidential information was discussed," the material says.

According to the newspaper, one of these meetings took place at the Pentagon on March 6, 2025. It was attended by the head of the British Ministry of Defense, John Healy. The politicians then discussed the suspension of American military aid to Ukraine and the rationale for this decision.

"The Minister of Defense can invite anyone to meetings with visiting colleagues, but the lists of participants are usually carefully limited to those who need to be present, and participants are usually expected to have access to classified information, given the sensitive nature of the discussions," the newspaper writes, citing officials from the Ministry of Defense.

Pentagon officials have confirmed that Hegseth's wife Jennifer is not an employee of the department. It is not uncommon for the spouses of high-ranking officials to have a low level of security clearance, but sources from the US Department of Defense declined to say whether Jennifer has one.

On March 25, it became known about the scandalous publication of the Atlantic magazine with a discussion of strikes against the Yemeni Houthis by the US administration. Jeffrey Goldberg, the magazine's editor-in-chief, said that on March 11, he received a request to connect to Signal from a user under the nickname "Mike Waltz." Two days later, he received a notification about adding the "Houthis small group" to the group chat. Then, on March 15, a user named "Pete Hegseth" posted a message that contained details of the upcoming strikes against the Houthis.

According to the screenshots, Hegseth sent information about the departure of American F-18 fighter jets 31 minutes before the start of the mission.
