Seven people were detained in the case of the Mamont virus program, which allows transferring money from bank cards. This was announced on March 29 by the Department for the organization of the fight against the illegal use of information and communication technologies of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
Criminal cases were opened against the defendants under Article 159.6 ("Fraud in the field of computer information") and Article 272 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Unlawful access to computer information").
"The control server, computer equipment, information storage devices, mobile phones, bank cards were seized," the department's Telegram channel says.
On March 27, the official representative of the department, Irina Volk, announced the detention of three hackers who are the creators of Mamont. The program was distributed through Telegram channels in the form of secure mobile applications and video files. After infecting the devices, the criminals could use SMS banking to transfer money from the victims' cards. It has been established that hackers are involved in the commission of more than 300 cybercrimes, and criminal cases have been initiated.
