Matfey Yurasov, a schoolboy from Moscow, won a gold medal at the World Chess Championship in Serbia. This was announced on March 28 by the Russian Chess Federation.

"On Friday, March 28, the World Championship among schoolchildren ended at the Vrnjacka Banja resort (Serbia). Russian chess players have won six medals — two gold and four bronze," the federation's Telegram channel says.

It is specified that Yurasov became the world champion in the under-13 age category.

In addition, Russian chess player Gleb Shcheglov won the under-15 tournament, while Oscar Fatkhlislamov and Miroslav Baturin-Vinogradov won bronze medals. Sofia Gaer also took the third place in the under-13 category.

In January, it became known that nine-year-old Russian chess player Roman Shogdjieff set a world record by becoming the youngest international master. The achievement was recorded in December 2024 at the RadnickiChess IM tournament in Belgrade, where he scored seven out of nine possible points, losing only to the winner Out Atalik.
