The dermatologist advised Russians to apply sunscreen in any weather

Sunscreen should be applied even on cloudy days, as the sun's rays can have a devastating effect on the skin, causing burns, premature aging and the appearance of cancer cells. Antonina Arsenyeva, PhD, Head of the Department of Dermatovenerology and Cosmetology at SamSMU, told RT about this on March 29.
The dermatologist identified two types of sunscreens: physical and chemical. The first, mineral ones, create a barrier on the surface of the skin that reflects and scatters ultraviolet rays. They are also hypoallergenic, but often require repeated application, as they are easily erased. Chemical creams neutralize the effects of ultraviolet radiation by absorbing it and converting it into thermal energy. But this kind of thing can cause irritation or allergies.
Arsenyeva clarified that SPF cream is an effective means of protecting against ultraviolet radiation. The higher the indicator, the longer you can stay in the sun without the risk of burns. But when choosing a product, you should take into account the phototype of the skin, the lighter it is, the higher the SPF level should be. To stay in the city in the summer, it is enough to use SPF 30-50, and for a seaside holiday you need at least SPF 50. During the off-season or rainy weather in the city, you can use SPF 15-20.
"This is quite enough to protect from the sun and prevent photo-aging. Moreover, it is worth applying the cream even if you plan to spend the day indoors or in the office. Some people mistakenly believe that the sun's rays do not penetrate through glass, but this is not the case. The same applies to clouds. Even on cloudy days, up to 80% of ultraviolet rays can still penetrate through light cloud cover and reach the skin," Arsenyeva said.
The dermatologist advised to apply sunscreen after morning care procedures before applying decorative cosmetics, which may also contain SPF for additional skin protection.
Vasilina Mironova, an expert on healthy skin and co-head of the cosmetology clinic, said on March 28 that it is dangerous for some people to expose their skin to the sun. At risk are people with white skin, visible dilated blood vessels, an oncological predisposition, as well as those who are prescribed strong drugs.
Also, those who suffer from diabetes, infectious processes on the skin and neoplasms, pigmentation, should not sunbathe, she said.
