Russian tennis player Daria Kasatkina announced on March 29 that she had received a residence permit in Australia and changed her sports citizenship to Australian.

"Australia is a place that I love, it's a very welcoming place, I feel at home here. I love visiting Melbourne and I can't wait to make my home here. I am proud to announce that from now on I will represent my new homeland, Australia, in my professional career," reads a message on the social network X (formerly Twitter).

She also expressed gratitude to her family, coaches and those who supported her on her professional path.

"I will always respect and deeply appreciate my roots, but I am happy to begin a new chapter of my career and my life under the Australian flag," concluded the athlete.

Tennis player Varvara Gracheva defeated Kasatkina on March 14 and reached the fourth round of the WTA-1000 tournament in Indian Wells (USA). The match ended with a score of 6:4, 6:4. The athletes spent 1 hour and 39 minutes on the court. In the fourth round, Gracheva will face Elena Rybakina, who changed her citizenship in 2018 and now represents Kazakhstan at the tournament.
