Hutsul called her arrest a political revenge.

The head of the Gagauz Autonomy of Moldova, Evgenia Gutsul, called her arrest a political revenge and said that the region would not submit to the government in Chisinau. The corresponding message appeared on March 28 in her Telegram channel.
"The court's decision to keep Gagauz Bashkan Yevgenia Hutsul in custody for 20 days is not only a legal absurdity, but also human cruelty...> For having the courage to defend the interests of her people. For not bending under the dictates of the ruling party. For speaking the truth loudly," the statement said.
It is also noted that the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) has shown that there is no morality or respect for the law for it, they are not conducting a political dialogue, but a massacre.
"This is an open attempt to suppress autonomy, it is a signal: "we are the masters, and you are subordinates." But Gagauzia will not submit. We are not slaves, we are a people with dignity, with a history, with the right to vote," concluded Hutsul.
Earlier in the day, a court in Chisinau decided to arrest Hutsul for a period of 20 days. The head of Gagauzia was charged with allegedly illegally financing the election campaign in 2023. The Pobeda opposition bloc strongly protested the court's decision.
On the eve of the Hutsul Telegram channel, a statement was published stating that prosecutors had already prepared a new judicial arrest request against her without legal or factual reasons.
The detention of Hutsul at the Chisinau airport without explanation became known on March 25. The Pobeda block reported that the head of Gagauzia was supposed to fly to Istanbul, where she was scheduled to meet. According to the Prosecutor General's Office of Moldova, the politician was detained after her name appeared on the list of persons prohibited from leaving the country.
