A powerful flare of the highest class X1.1 occurred at the eastern edge of the Sun. This was announced on March 28 by Sergey Bogachev, head of the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy at the IKI RAS.

He noted that this is the first outbreak of this level in the last month.

"The last time a high—level outbreak was registered was on February 23," Bogachev told RIA Novosti.

Previously, this event does not pose a threat to Earth. Nevertheless, the expert pointed out that if the outbreak becomes a harbinger of a new wave of solar activity, possible direct impacts on the planet may begin from the middle of next week.

On March 27, an outbreak of the penultimate power class M occurred on the Sun. It lasted 34 minutes and was registered at 3:38 Moscow time.

Mikhail Leus, a leading specialist at the Phobos Weather Center, reported on March 21 that a magnetic storm had begun on Earth, with a power ranging from mild to moderate intensity. The expert believes that this event is caused by the Earth falling into a stream of fast and dense solar wind, the speed of which is 150-200 km/ s higher than normal.
