The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk expressed concern about the murder of three Russian journalists during the attack of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) on the Lugansk People's Republic (LNR). He announced this on March 28 in a speech to the UN Council.

"I am also concerned about the killings of civilians [in the LPR] <...>. According to reports, six people, including three journalists, were killed in a Ukrainian missile strike in the LPR earlier this week," Turk said, quoted by TASS.

Since 2022, according to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), over 12.7 thousand civilians have been killed and more than 30 thousand have been injured.

Earlier, on March 24, Izvestia correspondent Alexander Fedorchak was killed in the area of a special military operation. He worked in the LPR and the Kharkiv region. The last report of the journalist was aired on March 23. In it, Fedorchak spoke about the situation in the Kupyansk area. A memorial was erected in the Izvestia News Center building as a sign of mourning for the deceased correspondent.

On the same day, Andrey Panov, the operator of the Zvezda TV channel, and Alexander Sirkeli, the driver of the film crew, died. They worked on the same set with Fedorchak. The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has opened a criminal case into the deaths of journalists.

In addition, on March 26, it became known about the death of Channel One correspondent Anna Prokofieva while working in the Belgorod region on the border with Ukraine. The channel's cameraman Dmitry Volkov was injured.
