Alexander Yemanov, Doctor of Technical Sciences, director of the Altai-Sayan branch of the Federal Research Center "Unified Geophysical Service of the Russian Academy of Sciences", said that repeated tremors are expected in Myanmar and in neighboring regions, including Bangkok, after a powerful earthquake.

In conversation with aif.ru On Friday, March 28, the specialist explained that it was a tectonic natural earthquake. Its magnitude was 7.7, which is a very high indicator.

"There are such earthquakes in these zones, especially in the Taiwan region. Bangkok is not so close to Myanmar. He swayed and swayed. Earthquakes occur in the seismically active area where plates collide," the seismologist explained.

According to him, there will be more tremors, but after a magnitude of 7.7, there is usually "attenuation," so it is unlikely that it will be more. Aftershocks after major earthquakes always have lower energy.

Earlier in the day, a powerful earthquake struck Myanmar, killing 144 people. There are at least 200 injured people in hospitals.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his condolences to Myanmar's Prime Minister Min Aung Hlaing over the loss of life caused by the earthquake. The Russian leader noted that the Russian Federation shares the grief of the friendly Myanmar people, Regnum news agency reports.

Earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 6.4 were recorded in Myanmar, neighboring Thailand, earlier in the day, and subsequently fluctuations reached Bangkok and its environs. Thai Prime Minister Phethong Thang Shinawatra has declared a state of emergency in the country's capital.

Prior to this, the Association of Russian Tour Operators reported that there was no information about injured Russian tourists as a result of the earthquake in Bangkok.
