On Friday and the upcoming weekend, March 28-30, the State Traffic Inspectorate will conduct massive and continuous checks of drivers, special attention will be paid to the search for drunk motorists. The upcoming raids were announced by the regional departments of the department.

Traffic police will carry out preventive measures on roads in the Altai Republic, Ulyanovsk, Ivanovo, Kirov, Kaluga, Samara, Lipetsk, Penza regions and other regions of the country.

On the eve of the weekend, the State Traffic Inspectorate reminds drivers about the inadmissibility of driving while intoxicated. Mass checks on Russian roads to identify drivers who have got behind the wheel after drinking alcohol are carried out on weekends by traffic police on an ongoing basis.

"When you see that a drunk person gets behind the wheel, behaves inappropriately, creates dangerous situations on the road, do not remain indifferent — report this to the police. Employees of the State Traffic Inspectorate will definitely take all necessary measures to respond to such reports," Police Colonel Sergei Hrantskevich, head of the Department for road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, told Izvestia.

He stressed that driving under the influence of alcohol is unacceptable and endangers the lives of not only the driver himself, who got behind the wheel after drinking alcohol, but also his passengers, as well as other road users.

The State Traffic Inspectorate recalled that driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as refusing a medical examination, entails the deprivation of a driver's license for a period of one and a half to two years and a heavy fine. In addition, in some cases, the driver faces criminal liability for these acts.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that the State Duma had prepared a bill proposing to triple the fine for parking cars on the sidewalk. The fine should increase from 1 thousand to 3 thousand rubles, and in Moscow and St. Petersburg - from 3 thousand to 5 thousand rubles, deputies say.
