Russia and China have linked the escalation on the Korean Peninsula to US military activity

Russia and China believe that the military activity of the United States and its allies is the main reason for the escalation on the Korean peninsula. This was announced on March 28 by the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a media release.

On this day, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrei Rudenko held consultations with Chinese Government Special Representative for Korean Peninsula Affairs Liu Xiaoming.

"The parties noted the proximity or coincidence of assessments of the causes of the aggravation of the situation on the Korean peninsula, the main of which is the ongoing military activity of the United States and its allies," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on its website.

During the consultations, it was noted that such provocative activities threaten peace and stability in Northeast Asia. According to the parties, as part of the resolution of the issue, it is necessary to form confidence-building measures, work out steps to de-escalate, and abandon block thinking.

"An agreement has been reached to continue close coordination, including in the UN Security Council, in order to prevent further deterioration of the situation in the subregion and bring it into a positive direction," the Russian Ministry summed up.

Earlier, it became known about the date of negotiations between Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The official visit of the minister from China is scheduled for April 1. Ways out of the Ukrainian crisis will be discussed during the meeting.
