The EC called on Ukraine to evaluate the agreement with the United States from the point of view of European integration

Ukraine should analyze its resource agreement with the United States in terms of fulfilling its obligations under European integration. This was announced on March 28 by the representative of the European Commission (EC) Paula Pinho.

"Ukraine has been informed of the position that such an agreement will require analysis from the point of view of EU—Ukraine relations, in particular in the context of EU accession negotiations," she said at a briefing in Brussels, which was published on the website of the EC audiovisual service.

Pinho added that the European Commission is always ready to help Ukraine with consultations on the consequences of this agreement. However, according to her, there was no request from Ukraine on this topic.

On March 27, Verkhovna Rada deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak announced the new terms of the agreement between Kiev and Washington on minerals. It covers all useful resources, including oil and gas, throughout the country. The agreement on the new US project has no deadline and no provisions on security guarantees.

The Financial Times newspaper noted at the same time that Ukraine had not appreciated the new US fossil proposal, as a result of which it was unlikely to sign the agreement. As the newspaper notes, the deal could undermine Ukraine's sovereignty, as well as withdraw all profits abroad. This will increase Kiev's dependence on Washington, the article says.
