Sanctions against Russia may be lifted if the conflict in Ukraine ends. This was stated on March 28 by the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Leyen in an interview with the French television company LCI.

"When the conflict ends, [anti—Russian] sanctions can be lifted, but not before," von der Leyen said, according to a video of the conversation posted on LCI's YouTube channel.

At the same time, she clarified that achieving lasting peace in Ukraine and ensuring security guarantees is the main condition for lifting restrictions on the Russian Federation.

The day before, the head of the EC said that the European Union (EU) would maintain sanctions against Russia. She added that the EU member states are going to increase financial and military support for Kiev in the near future.
