According to preliminary data, up to 2 thousand tourists from Russia may currently be in Bangkok, where a powerful earthquake occurred. This was announced on March 28 by the Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR).
"According to preliminary data, there may be up to two thousand tourists from Russia in Bangkok. About a quarter of them are organized travelers," the association's Telegram channel says.
There are also a large number of Russians living in the Thai capital who are not tourists, ATOR said. At the moment, there have been no reports of injured Russian travelers. The destruction of hotel buildings was also not recorded.
"According to tour operators, there is no destruction or panic, tourists in Phuket, Pattaya and the islands continue their holidays "in normal mode," the message adds.
Earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 6.4 were recorded in Myanmar, neighboring Thailand, earlier in the day, and subsequently fluctuations reached Bangkok and its environs. Thai Prime Minister Phethong Thang Shinawatra has declared a state of emergency in the country's capital. The metro is not working in the city, there are interruptions in communication. The Russian Embassy in the country clarifies the situation regarding possible victims among Russians.
CNN, citing Thai authorities, reported that at least 50 people were injured in the collapse of a building under construction during the earthquake in Bangkok. At least 67 people are trapped under the rubble of the building.
