Hutsul called the case against her political

On March 28, the head of the Gagauz Autonomy, Evgenia Gutsul, told reporters during a break in the court session that the criminal case brought against her by the Moldovan authorities was political.
"This is a political matter, because I am a Bashkan (head) Gagauzia," TASS quoted her as saying.
It is noted that the guards did not allow the politician to continue his sentence, literally pushing the Hutsul into the meeting room.
On the same day, it became known that prosecutors had requested 30 days of arrest for the detained head of Gagauzia. It was reported that the court session in Chisinau was held behind closed doors as Hutsuls were being suppressed. Representatives of the Moldovan opposition bloc Pobeda and their supporters gathered outside the building to support the head of Gagauzia.
The detention of Hutsul at the Chisinau airport without explanation became known on March 25. The Pobeda block reported that the head of Gagauzia was supposed to fly to Istanbul, where she was scheduled to meet. According to the Moldovan Prosecutor General's Office, the politician was detained after her name was found on the list of persons prohibited from leaving the country.
Later, the head of Gagauzia was taken to the National Anti-Corruption Center (NAC) of Moldova. The department reported that in the near future Hutsul will be formally charged with violating the procedure for managing election funds, illegally financing election competitors and falsifying documents, and prosecutors will ask the court to place her under preliminary arrest.
