Over the past day, 233 road accidents have occurred on Russian roads, in which 26 people were killed and 274 injured. 22 of the dead were passengers and drivers. This was reported to Izvestia on March 28 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Russian Interior Ministry.

As a result of 65 accidents, 24 of which occurred at pedestrian crossings and 41 outside their area of operation, four pedestrians were killed, and 66 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured were 12 child pedestrians, seven of whom were injured while crossing the roadway in places not designated for this purpose.

24 accidents involving minors were registered, as a result of which 24 young road users were injured, including four passengers, two cyclists and five motor transport drivers. Three children were killed, two of whom were passengers in one passenger vehicle, as well as a child pedestrian.

So, in the Murmansk region, on a regional highway, a passenger car driver drove into the oncoming lane in a prohibited place, where he collided with a crossover. As a result of the accident, both the culprit of the car accident and his two minor passengers died: a 14-year-old teenager and his 8-year-old sister. Both dead children were in the back row of seats and were wearing seat belts. Another passenger of this car was injured and ended up in the hospital.

In Krasnoyarsk, a truck driver, while turning right, ran over two pedestrians — a mother and her 10-year-old son, who were crossing the roadway at an unregulated pedestrian crossing. Pedestrians died as a result of the accident.

On the eve of the weekend, the State Traffic Inspectorate urged drivers to follow the rules of the road and be more attentive on the roads of towns and cities. Drivers should take special care when approaching pedestrian crossings, slowing down in front of them until they come to a complete stop in order to allow pedestrians to pass.

"The State Traffic Inspectorate reminds motorists that the life and health of their passengers depend entirely on the skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding driving behavior. Avoid risky driving, speeding, sudden lane changes, overtaking, and other dangerous maneuvers. Always leave yourself plenty of time to react adequately to a possible change in the traffic situation at any moment. We also draw the attention of drivers to the strict observance of the rules for transporting children. Take care of your young passengers, preventing even the prerequisites for a possible tragedy," Police Colonel Sergei Hrantskevich, head of the Department for Road Safety Promotion and Prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, told Izvestia.

The State Traffic Inspectorate noted that since the beginning of March, 376 accidents involving underage passengers under the age of 16 have occurred on Russian roads, killing 12 and injuring 439 children and teenagers.

The day before, it was reported that Russian driver's licenses may be recognized as valid for driving vehicles in China. Dmitry Zverev, Deputy Head of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, said at a plenary meeting in the Federation Council that the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia are discussing the recognition of driver's licenses with China.
