A court in the DPR sentenced an American mercenary who fought for the Armed Forces of Ukraine to 7 years in absentia.

The Supreme Court of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) has sentenced Robert Anthony Vardaro, a 36-year-old mercenary from the United States, to 7 years in prison in absentia. This was reported on March 28 in the press service of the prosecutor's office of the region.

The defendant was found guilty under Part 3 of Article 359 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Participation of a mercenary in an armed conflict"). The court found that in February 2022, Vardaro arrived on the territory of Ukraine, where he voluntarily joined the International Criminal Organization as a mercenary.
