UNESCO Director General condemns murder of three Russian journalists in LPR


UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay condemned the murder of Izvestia correspondent Alexander Fedorchak, Zvezda TV cameraman Andrei Panov and Zvezda film crew driver Alexander Sirkeli by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). in the Lugansk People's Republic (LNR). The corresponding statement was published on March 27 on the organization's website.
"I condemn the murder of Alexander Fedorchak, Andrei Panov and Alexander Sirkeli and call for a thorough and transparent investigation," the statement said.
Azoulay also called for compliance with international humanitarian law, including UN Security Council Resolution 2222 on the protection of journalists, media workers and related personnel in conflict situations.
Fedorchak's death in the SVO zone became known on March 24. He worked in the Luhansk People's Republic and the Kharkiv region. Fedorchak's latest report on the situation in the Kupyansk area aired on March 23. A memorial was erected in the Izvestia News Center building as a sign of mourning for the deceased correspondent.
On the same day, Andrei Panov, a cameraman for the Zvezda TV channel, and Alexander Sirkeli, the driver of the film crew, died in the LPR. They worked on the same set with Fedorchak. Two days later, on March 26, Anna Prokofieva, a military correspondent for Channel One, was killed while performing her professional duty in the Belgorod Region, and Dmitry Volkov, a cameraman, was also injured.
