U.S. mirror duties in response to other countries' tariffs on American goods may turn out to be more moderate than expected. This was announced on March 27 by White House press Secretary Caroline Leavitt.

She recalled that the fees are planned to be introduced on April 2. The White House representative noted that the target of the tariffs would be those countries that "profited" from the United States.

"The President [of the United States Donald Trump] <... He believes that some of the figures [of tariff rates] will be more moderate than many expect," she said during a conversation with reporters at the White House, a recording of which was published by the C-SPAN channel.

Leavitt assured that the administration in Washington will put the interests of American workers above all else and will fight unfair trade policies that harm the US middle class.

On March 26, Trump announced the introduction of 25 percent duties in the United States on all cars and trucks manufactured outside the country. He specified that these measures will come into force on April 2 and will be added to the existing ones. The White House estimates that approximately $100 billion in annual duties will be collected.

On the same day, the head of the European Commission (EC), Ursula von der Leyen, expressed regret over the new tariff on cars in the United States. She stressed that Trump's tariffs harm businesses and consumers, and said that the EU intends to defend its economic interests.
