The European Union (EU) has imposed sanctions against the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Belarus. The relevant document was published on March 27 on the EU website.

"Taking into account the situation in Belarus, 25 individuals and seven legal entities should be included in the list of individuals and legal entities, organizations and bodies subject to restrictive measures," the document says.

The association added representatives of the Central Election Commission to the list due to the fact that it considers the 2025 presidential elections held in Belarus to be allegedly unfair.

Earlier, on January 27, Great Britain and Canada imposed sanctions against Belarus after the presidential elections. They affected politicians, government agencies and some companies in the republic.

On that day, the Central Election Commission of Belarus announced the victory of the current president Alexander Lukashenko in the presidential election. He received 5,136,293 votes — 86.82% of the total.

According to Igor Karpenko, Chairman of the Central Election Commission, citizens and observers did not complain about violations during voting or vote counting in the presidential election. The absence of significant violations was also confirmed by the observer mission of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).
