Putin laid flowers at the Defenders of the Arctic Memorial in Murmansk


On March 27, Russian President Vladimir Putin laid flowers at the Defenders of the Arctic Memorial on the Green Cape Hill in Murmansk.
The Head of State knelt and laid flowers, after which he observed a minute of silence in memory of the soldiers who died during the Great Patriotic War.
The monument to the Defenders of the Arctic was opened in 1974 to mark the 30th anniversary of the defeat of the Nazi troops in the Arctic. It is located at an altitude of about 200 m above sea level, its height is more than 42 m. In 1975, the remains of an unknown soldier were reburied there and the Eternal Flame was lit.
Earlier in the day, it was reported that Putin had arrived in Murmansk on a working visit. The VI International Arctic Forum dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the opening of the Northern Sea Route is being held in the city on March 26-27.
