In St. Petersburg on Thursday morning, March 27, gardens, parks and squares were closed for the traditional spring drying. This is necessary to restore landscaping elements after heavy snowmelt, said Sergey Petrichenko, head of the landscaping committee, in his Telegram channel.

"First of all, we are talking about those territories that have fencing. However, calmness is necessary for all green spaces now," the official said, quoted by the 78 TV channel.

As Petrichenko explained, the city on the Neva has some climatic and hydrological features, so the soil needs a short period to recover from winter.

He added that, first of all, lawns, dirt and gravel paths need rest. With the arrival of spring, the soil and park alleys are heavily waterlogged, eroded and begin to deform.

It will take about a month to dry completely. In particular, San Galli Gardens, Lopukhinsky, Nikolsky, Tavrichesky, Kazansky and Yekaterininsky squares will be closed. The head of the committee also called for careful treatment of locations that will be left open.

Earlier in March, it was reported that in St. Petersburg, a memorial hall named after Prince and Commander Alexander Nevsky would be equipped in the Exchange building on Strelka Vasilyevsky Island. It will become the largest ceremonial hall in the Northern Capital.
