The court in Moscow arrested the ex-head of Rusagro Basov until May 25.


The Meshchansky District Court of Moscow has sent Maxim Basov, the former general director of the Rusagro agricultural holding, to jail for two months in a fraud case. This was announced on March 27 by a correspondent of Izvestia from the courtroom.
According to the decree, his arrest will last until May 25. The investigation requested the arrest of the ex-head of the company, claiming established connections in law enforcement agencies.
The defendant did not admit his guilt. He stated that he has no ties with Rusagro and noted that he stopped working for the company three years ago. The defense requested house arrest or an extension of the detention period for 72 hours.
It has been established that one of Basov's children lives in the UK, and he himself has two Russian and Grenadian citizenships.
In the afternoon, the court placed Vadim Moshkovich, the founder of Rusagro and a former member of the Federation Council from the Belgorod Region, under arrest. His arrest will last until May 25, and he also pleaded not guilty.
The day before, a source from Izvestia reported on Moshkovich's detention. The metropolitan Court registered the investigator's request for a preventive measure in the form of detention. It was reported that Moshkovich owned foreign real estate and had Israeli citizenship.
The offices of Rusagro were searched. On the same day, Moshkovich and Basov were charged with fraud and abuse of office. It was reported that after the searches, the company's activities continue as normal, and the organization is ready to assist law enforcement agencies. Rusagro also noted that the company conducts its activities in accordance with the law.
