The Moscow region became one of the three leaders in growing vegetables in greenhouses

The Moscow region has risen to the second place in Russia in the production of protected soil vegetables. This was facilitated by the implementation of greenhouse projects, the press service of the regional Ministry of Agriculture and Food reported on Thursday, March 27.

By the end of 2024, 129 thousand tons of vegetables were grown in the Moscow region. Today, the area of winter greenhouse complexes is 228.7 hectares.

ECO-Culture is one of the largest enterprises producing indoor vegetables in the Russian Federation. The agricultural holding grows up to 16 thousand tons of fresh produce annually in greenhouses on the territory of Voskresensk.

According to the online publication Podmoskovye Segodnya, the company plans to build a seed breeding center in the region in 2026. New varieties and hybrids will be created there. 12 billion rubles will be invested in the facility, which will create 380 new jobs.

Earlier in March, it was reported that eight new vegetable storages will be built in the Moscow Region in 2025. The new facilities will improve food security and keep prices on the "borscht set", ensure import substitution of potatoes.
