Construction of the Moscow—Saint Petersburg high-speed railway (HSR) will begin in mid-2025. This was announced on March 27 by the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation Roman Starovoit.

He noted that the HSR will connect six regions of Russia into a single agglomeration.

"The new highway will reduce the travel time between the two capitals from four hours to two hours and 15 minutes," Starovoit said.

The minister also clarified that all the necessary financial documents were signed in 2024, and from the middle of this year, specialists will begin construction work.

On January 30, at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Starovoit said that the HSR was on schedule, and the road would be built on time. According to him, the authorities, together with the Russian Railways holding company (RZD), are struggling with a decrease in loading in the railway transport sector, which has fallen by 4%.
