Interior Ministry officials have detained three hackers who are the alleged creators of the Mamont virus program, which allows transferring money from bank cards. This was announced on March 27 by the official representative of the department Irina Volk.

The investigation revealed that the attackers had developed malicious Mamont software, which was distributed through Telegram channels in the form of secure mobile applications and video files. After infecting the devices, the criminals could use SMS banking to transfer money from the victims' cards.

"The funds were credited to controlled subscriber numbers of mobile operators and electronic wallets," Wolf wrote in her Telegram channel.

According to operational data, hackers are involved in the commission of more than 300 cybercrimes, adds "Газета.Ru ".

During the searches, a server, computer equipment, data carriers, communications equipment, bank cards and other items were seized from three suspected residents of Saratov. Criminal cases have been initiated on this fact under Articles 159.6 ("Fraud in the field of computer information") and 272 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Unlawful access to computer information").

On March 18, the State Duma adopted in the first reading a draft law on combating telephone and Internet fraud. The document provides for the possibility of operational data exchange between government agencies, banks and digital platforms. It is noted that monitoring suspicious transactions will make it possible to detect fraudulent schemes almost instantly, block them, and then transfer them to law enforcement agencies.
